Dual Pane Low-E Coating Detector - AE1600

General Description

The "EURO-E" is an instrument that uses a patented method to detect the presence and location of any Low-E coatings (or any other conductive coating) on a single piece of glass. The meter can also test glass that is installed into a sealed insulating unit (double pane). The meter does not have to contact the coating in order to detect it, as it will detect coatings through the glass. The Euro-E is a valuable tool to use in the production environment to confirm the orientation of the Low-E  pieces of glass. The meters can be used in production to guarantee the glass is being placed into the washers correctly, and to confirm the low e pane is being installed properly into the sealed insulating units. The Euro-E is a rugged meter that can also be used in the field to test sealed double-glazed windows.
Proper Usage of Low E Detector

To operate the meter, simply press the flat bottom surface of the meter against the glass, and press the power button. One of the three indicators will instantly identify the presence and location of any Low-E coatings on the piece of glass you are contacting. The Euro-E is totally portable and is powered by a 9-volt alkaline battery (included).

The Euro-E will detect any type of Low-E coating, whether it is hard coat (pyrolytic) or soft coat (sputter).

This meter is factory calibrated and requires no field adjustments.

Before operating the meter, be sure that your glass or window being tested is not located over the top of a metal (conductive) surface. The glass should be in free air or placed on a surface that is not electrically conductive (paper, cardboard, wood, etc... are acceptable).
To operate the meter, simply place the flat bottom surface of the meter against the glass, and press the power button. You should hold the meter as shown in the picture above. The operator's hand MUST NOT touch the glass while taking readings, as this can alter the signal measured by the meter. The operator's hand should only be contacting the meter itself. When the power button is pushed, one of the three indicators will instantly identify the presence and location of any Low-E coatings on the piece of glass you are testing.

Surface 1 is the surface the meter is in contact with. Surface 2 is the other side of the piece of glass the meter is contacting. If more than one coating exists on a single piece of glass, the Euro-E will identify the closest coating only (i.e. surface 1). If there is no Low-E coatings on the glass, the clear indicator will light.

If you are testing a sealed double-glazed window, it will be necessary to test both sides of the window to accurately identify all possible locations of Low-E coating. Take a reading from one side to test one piece of glass, then take a reading from the other side to test the other piece of glass in the window. This will completely identify any Low-E coatings that are present in the window assembly.

EURO-E Proper Operation

For Single Pane or Sealed (Double Glazed) Window Assemblies

When the EURO-E is in direct contact with a LOW-E coating (SURFACE 1), the RED indicator will light, (NOTE: EURO-E shown contacting coated surface #1).

The YELLOW light indicates that a LOW-E coating exists on Surface 2 of the glass. (NOTE: Coating shown on surface 2)..

The GREEN light indicates that the glass is CLEAR of any LOW-E COATINGS. NO LOW-E coating exists on surfaces 1 or 2.

EURO-E Improper Operating Conditions

If the window area under test is excessively dirty or contaminated, the EURO-E will give improper results. The window area under test must be RELATIVELY CLEAN. Clean the test area or move the AE3600 to a clean location on the window.

The EURO-E must be used with the surface opposite the "Activate" button against the window. Using the small end surface of the unit or tilting the unit away from the surface will give improper results..

Placing the hand or an object on the window opposite the Low E Detector may give improper results. Remove hand or object.

IMPORTANT: Do not operate EURO-E within two (2) inches of a window frame or any other metallic window component. Operating the unit in this way may give improper results.

Important Notes

The EURO-E is the only thing that should be in contact with the glass while the reading is being taken. The operator may have their hand on the meter itself, but should not allow any part of their hand to overlap the meter and come into contact with the glass during testing.

At a minimum, annually replace the battery with a 9 volt Alkaline (NEDA 1604A) only.
